Kindle Paperwhite Review

I am so excited! Today I will be reviewing my Kindle Paperwhite that I got for Christmas! image

I am obsessed with books! I read all the time, and because I often can’t sleep, I read during the night as well. My parents also noticed that I’ve been reading many books on my phone (I had no other e-book reader apart from my computer) and they weren’t very happy that I was straining my eyes on my phone. I didn’t ask for a Kindle for Christmas, I actually didn’t ask for anything because I am old enough to earn money on my own, but my parents still bought the best present for me! imageNeedless to say, I have been using it obsessively!

So let’s start with the review!

As you’ve probably guessed already, I’ve never had an e-book reader before, so I have no other product to base this review on, but I still thought I’d share it with you guys!

Kindle Paperwhite

Description from Amazon.com

Technical Details

In a nutshell:

The dimension of the Kindle Paperwhite is 6.7″ x 4.6″ x 0.36″ (169 mm x 117 mm x 9.1 mm), it weighs 7.3 ounces (206 grams), 2 GB of internal memory, WiFi, free cloud storage, and an experimental browser. Now, with regards to the battery, Amazon claims that it will last for 8 weeks. However, right underneath that statement is small print which says: “Kindle Paperwhite data based on 30 minutes of reading per day, wireless turned off, front light at setting 10“. Ok so yeah, they were a bit ambitious when they claimed that the battery will last for 8 weeks.

Personally: I read for about 3 – 4 hours in total every day, my WiFi is rarely turned on on the Kindle, and my light setting is usually at 15. In those conditions, it looks like my Kindle will be able to pull off a full two weeks without being charged. That is still, in my opinion, awesome! The Kindle comes with its own USB cable, and I charge it with the adapter from my HTC phone. Although you can use any charging adapter that accepts a USB cable on the other side. (I so suck at technical terminology)

It’s soooooo pretty! There are different leather covers that you can buy for your Kindle. Knowing that I like my stuff cute and girly, my parents bought me the gorgeous Fuchsia colour to go with my Kindle. image

Both the Kindle and the leather cover are very strong, and the cover definitely does a great job of protecting the Kindle. I did a sneak peak online to see how much it costs, and at $39.99 it is indeed a bit pricey. However, it is an excellent way to protect your Kindle, and I think that it would be a great investment! Also, when you close the cover, the Kindle switches off on its own, so you don’t have to press the button at the bottom to turn it off! I really love this option because it is a quick way to use the device.

I took a few pictures to show you the quality of the screen. It literally feels like you are reading a book and it doesn’t hurt my eyes like a regular computer or tablet screen does! I’ve also been using it quite a lot to read in the dark when I can’t sleep, and it is amazing. I am no expert, so I don’t know how they installed the light, but it feels like it’s coming front behind your head and not at you.

It has some really cool options as well! If you look at the last photo, you will see that it says at the bottom Time left in book: 13h 41m. You can adjust this setting so that it tells you how much time you have left in a chapter, how many pages left in a chapter, how many pages left in a book, or how much time your have left until you finish the entire book. This is obviously an approximate time depending on how often you switch between pages. ^_^

The entire screen is a touch screen, and it is very quick to react to your touch. It has so many options that have to do with reading, browsing the Net, making collections, an in-built dictionary, flashcards for words you looked up in the dictionary, notes, etc. This post would be a very long one if I included all of the options, but you can always check them out on Amazon if you are interested. image

I took a few photos of the Kindle next to books of various sizes, just to give you an idea of how big it is.

This was such a great present, and I’m pretty sure that this Kindle and I are going to have a looooooong future together! image
